A serious accident happened to MR. FRANCIS SPEAR, an excise? officer at the Truro Custom-house. While he was coming down some steps in a land near St. Gluvias church, his foot slipped, and he fell against a post, by which he received several severe bruises about his head and arm, and broke some of the ribs of his right side. He got up, and walked from the lane down to the river, a distance of more than two miles, and there, whilst getting into the boat, his weakness was so great that he staggered and fell into the water. Fortunately some persons were present, by whom he was pulled out, and brought up the river in a boat as far as Restronguet passage, from whence he walked home to Truro. Mr. Spear is above 70 years of age, and we are happy to say that he is now going on well.

GRENFELL AND OTHERS v. EDGCOME AND DUNSTAN - This was an action on the case for an injury to a reversion, and arose under the following circumstances:- In the year 1807, a man called NATHANIEL ROBERTS died, leaving a will duly attested, whereby he devised "all his land, property, and effects," to his daughter, ANN GRENFELL, she paying three annuities of £5 a year to his three sons named; and after their deaths, "by her freely to be enjoyed, independent of her husband, the said property descending to her two children," the plaintiffs... About the year 1813 or 1814, a person named HEARNE, purchased the Cane Mills of Glasson, which he pulled down, and erected a large store house and mills, and these same mills and stores are in the possession of the defendants... The question involves the right to the present Budock Mills, near Penryn.

WILLIAM WARNE, 51, was indicted for stealing a quantity of lead from the roof of the house of HENRY WINCHCOMBE HARTLEY, in the borough of Penryn. MR. P. ROGERS, wharfinger, of Penryn, said that he and his brother were employed by MR. JOHN TYACKE, to look after a house in that town; they kept the keys, and occasionally had the premises repaired. On the 22nd of last January, witness went to the house, and found a great quantity of water on the first floor; he proceeded to the next floor, and found water there also; and on going to the top of the house he found that the roof had been stripped of lead, between three and four hundred weight having been taken away. The lead was not all gone from the roof in July last, when the house was repaired. ...JOHN BARNICOAT, a mason, at Penryn, and THOMAS NINNIS, a constable, proved that they found in the prisoner's house a quantity of lead, which on being taken to the roof corresponded with the woodwork.

The deceased was about to change her residence from Helston to Truro, and on Thursday, the 20th instant, she was removing a waggon-load of furniture to the latter place, when she insisted on riding on one of the shafts in order, as she said, to keep an eye on her furniture. Her sons endeavoured to dissuade her from doing so, but without effect, and shortly after the waggon had passed Burnt House Gate, she desired the driver to go behind to see that the chairs were all right. Whilst he went for that purpose, he saw the deceased fall from the shaft on the road, and before he could stop the horses the wheels went over her legs. He immediately obtained assistance, and had her conveyed to the toll-gate house, where she expired on the following Saturday morning. Verdict, accidental death.

PAUL WILLIAMS, the magistrate, and then returned them to Mr. COCK. ...ABRAHAM COCK, a brazier and plumber, at Penryn, said he had been in the habit of purchasing old metal. KNIGHT
WILLIAMS
Sessions
J]OHN KNIGHT, 22, was charged with having assaulted MARY WILLIAMS, a married owman, at the borough of Penryn, with intent &c There was a second count for a common assault. The prosecutrix was the wife of HENRY WILLIAMS, a wheelwright, libing at Laity Moor, about two miles and a half from Penryn. The prisoner was rather a respectable looking young man; but there were some statements made in the course of the trial, of his being of weak intellect. The assault was alleged to have been committed in the evening of the 17th of September, about ten o'clock, on the turnpike road from Falmouth to Truro. The evidence was of a conflicting character, particularly with reference to an allegation that the prosecutrix had expressed her willingness to compromise the matter for money, and that a sovereign was paid to her husband, in her presence, for that purpose, by prisoner's brother. The jury found a verdict of Acquittal.

It was proved that the prisoner had sold one goose to Mr. DAVID[SON?], one to Mr. BINTLE?, a third to Mr. SIMMONS, and another to [...?] JOHNSON, all the birds being then alive. The housekeeper and servant of the owner swore to three of the geese, and the persons to whom they were sold proved that the prisoner brought them to their houses.
